FOURTH STREET RECONSTRUCTION BEGINS MONDAY APRIL 8, 2024

FOURTH STREET RECONSTRUCTION BEGINS MONDAY APRIL 8, 2024

Construction will resume on Fourth Street infrastructure and road replacement from Halvorson Street and working west to Mill Street over the next 3-4 months.

Starting Monday, April 8, 2024, Fourth Street will be closed from Halvorson Street to Jefferson Street including the corresponding intersections.

Fourth Street from Jefferson Street to Washington Street will be closed to thru-traffic and used as a construction staging area.  Please avoid travel in this block due to heavy equipment and trucks hauling construction materials.

Walk-Up access to the post office will only be available from the south side of Fourth Street via Washington Street. Please use the drive-up mailbox located at “The Market” (Tersteeg’s) for mail drop-off.

Tentative schedule (subject to change due to weather impacts):

  • Traffic control and temporary water service lines placed 4/1-4/5.
  • Bituminous, curb-gutter and sidewalk removals from Halvorson St. to Jefferson St. 4/8-4/9.
  • Temporary water shut off on Fourth St. and Lincoln St. 4/10 starting at 9:00 a.m.- 6 hours estimated down time.
  • Pipe crews replacing sanitary sewer to begin 4/10.
  • Bituminous, curb-gutter and sidewalk removals from Jefferson St. to Washington St. end of April.
  • Removals from Washington Street to Mill Street end of May.

Concrete, Curb-gutter, sidewalks, approaches, and bituminous paving will follow.

The purpose of the project is to replace water and sewer infrastructure that is 60-80 years old and connect to the new utility upgrades from the projects on Gould and Drew. In addition, this will further efforts to meet Federal and State-Mandated accessible pedestrian corridors through the city.
