The Building Inspections Division is responsible for the administration of the Minnesota State Building Code and related City Ordinances regulating construction, alterations and the use of buildings within the city. These minimum standards are enforced to protect the health, safety, welfare, and property of the citizens of Redwood Falls by ensuring that proper procedures and building codes are followed in the construction of structures throughout the city.
Building Permits are required for many building projects including—not limited to—new construction, additions, structural changes, decks, finished basements, manufactured homes, moving structures, demolition, roofing, siding, and window replacement, etc. Permit fees are paid at the time the permit is issued. Residential building permits for re-siding, re-roofing, window replacements, minor plumbing and mechanical permits can generally be issued within 24 hours. Other residential permit applications, which require plan review, can take up to 10 business days to process. Contact the Building Department for current commercial building permit processing times.
Applications for permits should be submitted well in advance of the scheduled construction start date. This will allow City staff time to offer assistance and issue permits by the start of the project.
If you are unsure if your project requires a permit, please contact the Inspections Department at 507-616-7400 or at [email protected]
